About Bromley Art Society

Bromley Art Society was formed in 1947 to bring together local painters and sculptors, art teachers and students, and all who share an appreciation of the fine arts. Most of its members are amateur artists working in a wide variety of media; oils, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, gouaches, pen and ink, prints and batik.

Each year the Society stages major public exhibitions in the Bromley area. They provide an excellent opportunity to display original works of art and to find buyers. Exhibitors pay a small entrance and hanging fee plus a percentage of their sales to the Society.

An essential element of the Society's programme is a season of illustrated lectures by experts on art and artists and practical demonstrations of various media techniques. These are usually on the first Friday of the month, January and August excepted, at 8pm. From Feb 2015 they will take place at Ripley Arts Centre, 24 Sundridge Av, Bromley BR1 2PX.

On most Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm and from 1:30 - 4:30 pm members of the Society paint together, also at Ripley.

On Tuesday evenings there are life drawing classes with models for short and long poses. These take place at Ripley from 7 to 10 p.m.

Every four months members receive 'The Easel', the news and views of the Society's activities with reviews of events and art exhibitions, together with articles and letters submitted by the members.

The Society is affiliated to the Bromley Arts Council.
