The New Year 2012

Our Art Society begins the year without one of our most active members and long-time secretary. She suddenly died just before Christmas - a great shock to all who knew her. Many of us, who were able, attended her funeral yesterday and fully appreciated the tributes made. We move on, grieving the loss of a friend and rejoicing in the memory of one who lived life to the full.

Completing a painting

It is always worth setting aside, for a week or so, a piece that you think has been completed and then taking time to look at it again. More often than not you will spot something that needs tweaking, e.g., a highlight to be made brighter, a detail accidentally left out, an extra staple or two to tidy up the back of a canvas. And don't forget that all-important photograph before you frame. I'm going to start looking again at my unsold work to try and work out why they have not appealed to buyers. Perhaps, they are unfinished...

The George and Dragon, Ightam

Derek and I expect to put on a show of our stuff again at The George and Dragon, Ightam, over the Fathers Day weekend in 2012. It is a super venue because it's a great place to eat before or after viewing the exhibition. Why not book your table/s in advance?

I have decided that I must spend time in my studio during the festive season. This week has been barren; my brushes are dry and blank canvases look at me with brazen eyes as they flaunt their nakedness. I must clothe them in beauty. Be filled with joy this Christmas and always.

When Earth's Last Picture Is Painted

Here's something to think about when we lay down our brushes over the Christmas holiday...
Happy Christmas everyone!

When Earth's last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,
When the oldest colours have faded, and the youngest critic has died,
We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it -- lie down for an aeon or two,
Till the Master of All Good Workmen shall put us to work anew.

Pat and Friends

Pat and Friends managed to hang a show at Bromley Central Library today even tho' the place was closed to the public because of the 24-hour-strike. Without visitors it was an easier and quicker task than usual. However, we missed the opportunity to sell while hanging... It is a good-looking exhibition, beautifully managed by Pat and Leslie. Very worthy of your visit.

The John Ruskin Prize

The Campaign for Drawing, in collaboration with the Guild of St George, announces a new art award: The John Ruskin Prize.
The prize will be awarded to the best wall mounted artwork on the theme A New Look at Nature, and is open to anyone over 18 working in painting, drawing, print-making or mixed media and resident or domiciled in the UK.

The Easel

Yippee yet again. Quite a few members collected their copies at BEECHE on Saturday. The rest almost filled the postbox on the corner of my street this afternoon to catch the 5 pm collection. Another job done!

The Easel

Yippee again! The Easel arrived this morning and copies are already in envelopes. Labels have been printed. I'm pleased as Punch. Members can expect to get their copies by the middle of next week. Yippee!

The Easel

Yippee! The Winter issue was mailed to the printer on Tuesday morning this week
