Ailsa Chapman (née Nicolson), BA (Hons)
Artist & Graphic Designer
Welcome to Ailsa's online art gallery!
Exploring the botanical world around me through the medium of visual art. I am inspired by various types of plants and flowers, the landscapes in which they grow, and flower still life arrangements, all of which surround me whether at home or away. I use a variety of media, both traditional and digital.
I have been an artist and graphic designer for many years, having studied Graphic Design at Wimbledon School of Art followed by a 20-year career in the printing and magazine publishing sectors. In 2008 I was awarded an OU BA Honours Degree in Humanities with Art History and Religious Studies. I am a member of the Society for All Artists, and the Bromley Art Society with whom I exhibit occasionally.
Much of my time is now spent painting, drawing inspiration from nature, particularly flowers and gardens. One of my hobbies is walking, so I am sometimes inspired by the landscapes I walk through, particularly whilst on holiday. I use my own digital photographs as reference material, whilst still life arrangements provide opportunities to observe and paint from life.
A variety of media are used to create my works, from traditional methods such as coloured pencils, pastels, gouache and acrylics, to digital media such as ArtRage, Autodesk SketchBook, ArtFlow, Corel Graphic Suite and Photoshop Elements.
I also design and make greetings cards which, along with a selection of my works, can be viewed and purchased at exhibitions with the Bromley Art Society.
