Studio Session Profiles

Alison Berry

I joined Bromley Arts two years ago. My mother was an artist and textile designer so when I was growing up our home was full of paintings and the strong smell of oil paint and turpentine. I think that was what sparked my keen interest in art.

Art was always my favourite subject at school. After I left school I did a one year foundation course in art which I thoroughly enjoyed. After this I opted to do a degree in the History of Modern art and Design. Following this I worked at the Royal Academy and a couple of commercial art galleries in London.

I took up painting again about fifteen years ago as I wanted to learn how to paint in watercolour and I joined Peter Suttons class at the Widmore. I also did some life drawing there. Recently I have been exploring the use of pastels and charcoal.

I really enjoy attending the Ripley Art group, everyone is so friendly and welcoming and there are always people who will offer helpful advice and tips should you need it.
